Having met with Victor Von Vasselheim, and learning the magic flowing from Old Vasselheim is actually the Empress’ doing and makes her practically immortal via the ‘mysterious object’ beneath, the team agreed upon a plan: They would make the mysterious liquid that Victor believes will ‘stop’ the flow of magic from the Bastion of the Platinum Dragon, then Victor would (disguised) go to New Vasselheim and arrange the rebellion while the heroes attempt to successfully block the magical pyre and rescue the object.
Recap
Victor dragoons the heroes into helping him. He needs them to help finish his spectrometer. They’ll need to place one gem (his purple) in the first slot, shoot magic through it, and have it bounce off the mirror, and then go through the green Flynn gem:
Through a series of amazing rolls (multiple nat 20s), they create the device and shoot two spells through it: Magnify Gravity and Witchbolt.
At first very little happens, but then Rinn’s lightning comes through the tube, twisted with variegated shades of purple. It goes through Victor’s purple gem, where all the purple is leeched out, bounces off the mirror, turning into a gold color, and through the green gem. As it continues through the green gem, the gem gets smaller and smaller until finally it disappears. In a small, stone, crucible is the liquid that was the gem of Flynn.
As they investigate the liquid, they realize the purple gem did not fully disappear, and Victor notices there’s ‘something’ kind of in it. Quickly they surmise that it may be Flynn and destroy the purple amethyst into dust. Flynn no longer appears to be on this plane, if he exists at all.
That gave them more than enough time to prep food and rest up. Stubby made a firework that would shoot her family crest into the sky. Fisch arranges for a moose to run Victor home, and another one (Charlie) will help to cast Transport Via Plants to get them from the Birthheart to the proto-birthheart.
The wolves guarded them all night, and the crew gave Victor a letter to deliver to Otel which had two messages:
- A coded message for Otel warning him about the upcoming revolution
- A hidden (illusory script) message for Ryo/Vanya.
Thus prepared, they watched Victor ride off into the sunrise… on a Moose … and themselves headed back to Old Vasselheim to tackle the Bastion of the Platinum Dragon.
